Barrio Chino mixes intrigue and classic gangster themes in a unique, post-modern, almost operatic, world of crime that has similarities to movies like Infernal Affairs and The Departed. The theme Barrio Chino explores is human desire: how crime and people’s lascivious desires for sex and power battle those who are exploited and who yearn for freedom and a meaningful existence. It’s tone borrows from classic noir as well as more recent neo-noir films (like The Man Who Wasn’t There).
A tormented drug syndicate’s stand-over man and a beautiful young woman enslaved to a drug kingpin battle to achieve their goals of freedom against the all-consuming life of a major drug syndicate in Barrio Chino.
