2020 Update

Well Happy New year to you all and I hope you all have a wonderful, exciting new year.

It’s been a while since I last posted and a lot has happened over the last year. I started the year midway through a screen Canberra feature film pod developing a feature film concept in my group managed by my long-time film buddy, Bruce Davie. The feature film concept I ended up pitching to execs from a number of production companies was called My Mate Horrie.

It was well received and garnered some interest. I completed the feature script in August and send it off to a number of companies that requested the script. Unfortuantely, though, as of today, I still haven’t heard back from them. Still hoping. But I am heartened at learning the Horrie has been selected as one of the top three scripts to go forward to finals selection in an international script-based website. At the very least, Horrie will get a bronze medal. Woohoo!

In September, I partnered up with another writer, John Klyza, an amazing scriptwriter who has a number of produced international film scripts. The two of us finished our first draft of a sci-fi feature film, titled Deption Effect, that is really awesome. Check out the poster:

In other news, John, a third writer, Josh Koske, and I rented a studio room at Film Plus, an emerging screen-based hub for film and TV productions located at the Academy of Interactive Education, near Screen Canberra’s office. We hope that being closer to Canberra-based film production teams will assist us in getting a wider network happening. I’ll keep you posted.

This year, I’ll be going to Sydney and Brisbane Supanova comicons to sell more Drago Bentley graphic novels. John will be attending with me and will be selling valued comic books from his collection. We will also take the opportunity to meet up with some companies to pitch whatever projects are on our creative slate. Caveat operante.

And that’s not all. I partnered with another writer, Lachlan Holt, the two of us drafting an outline of our sci-fi feature, Transfer, which is another really dope story. It’s good partnering up with other writers, I believe, because it brings out the best in each writer. I highly recommend it.

Hopefully the bushfires raging around the ACT will get extinguished. After most of the country has burned, I hope God smiles on us and lets Canberra be the oasis in a sea of black burned devastation. In the meantime, I will continue to attend our monthly writer’s group meetups and try and progress other people’s work.

Till next time…
